A native of Reading, Pennsylvania, Frank Ferraro began studying the trumpet at age eight. He made his solo debut with the Reading Symphony at age fifteen with his father, Frank Sr. at the podium serving as guest conductor. After graduating from Wilson High School in 1984, Mr. Ferraro won a full scholarship to attend the famed Curtis Institute of Music where he earned a Bachalor’s degree, studying under Frank Kaderabek, former principal trumpet of the Philadelphia Orchestra.
A finalist in the Philadelphia Orchestra Solo Competition, Mr. Ferraro has appeared as soloist with the Concerto Soloists of Philadelphia, The Harrisburg Symphony, The Hershey Symphony, The Pottstown Symphony, The Amerita Chamber Orchestra, The Davidsbund Chamber Players, The Reading Symphony and the Curtis Institute Symphony Orchestra. He has also appeared on ESPN Network, TNT Network, ABC’s “Good Morning America” and RAI Uno Television Network in Rome, Italy.
Recently, Mr. Ferraro played 1st trumpet on the Emmy Award winning HBO documentary “Unitas”, which chronicles the life of NFL quarterback legend Johnny Unitas.
After the terrorist attacks on 9/11 Mr. Ferraro was selected by the National Football League to record a solo trumpet version of “America the Beautiful” to be aired prior to the games as part of a memorial for the victims of the terrorist attacks.
From 1988 to 1992 Mr. Ferraro served as principal trumpet with the Spoleto Festival Orchestra in Charleston, South Carolina and in Spoleto, Italy. His experiences in Europe include many television broadcasts and recordings. Most recent of which is music from Giancarlo Menotti’s opera “Goya”.
In 2003 Mr. Ferraro was asked to tour with the Kennedy Center House Orchestra for three weeks in Japan. Then spent the next season at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. working with Placido Domingo on many opera productions.
Mr. Ferraro currently performs with orchestras and chamber groups throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware, and is principal trumpet of the Reading Symphony Orchestra, Princeton Symphony, and Co-Principal of the Delaware Symphony. He has appeared in performances with Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, Branford Marsalis, Bernadette Peters, The 3 Irish Tenors, Styx, Jetho Tull, Manhiem Steamrollers, and Dave Brubeck.
