Carla Dirlikov was recently described by Opera Magazine as having “the most compelling voice of the evening, one that grabbed the heartstrings with its dramatic force and musicality.” Throughout the summer and fall of 2008, Ms. Dirlikov made her European opera debut as Principessa Eboli in Don Carlo with the Opera Royal de Wallonie in Belgium, as well as covering Preziosilla in La Forza del Destino at the Caramoor Festival, and performing in several concerts under the direction of Maestro Will Crutchfield. In 2009 and beyond, engagements include Maddalena in Rigoletto with Knoxville Opera and Fresno Grand Opera, Flora in La Traviata with New Orleans Opera, Agnese in Respigi's La Fiamma at the Academy of Vocal Arts, Fenena in Nabucco at Michigan Opera Theatre, and Preziosilla in La Forza del Destino with the Opera Royal de Wallonie in 2013. In concert, she performs mezzo-soprano soloist for the Verdi Requiem with The New Jersey Master Chorale, mezzo-soprano soloist for Mendelssohn's Elijah with the Academy of Vocal Arts.
In the recent 2007-2008 season, she performed Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro under the direction of Jonathan Eaton with Opera Theater of Pittsburgh, alto soloist in Handel's Messiah with the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra and with the Metropolitan Chorus at the Kennedy Center, and made her European concert debut as the mezzo soloist in Rossini's Stabat Mater and Beethoven’s Kantate auf den Tod Kaiser Josephs II at the Spoleto Festival under the direction of Mo. Steven Mercurio. This concert was recorded and televised on RAI. She was also featured as alto soloist in Mahler's Symphony No. 2 with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, and was named the recipient of the David and Ingrid Kosowsky Award at the Palm Beach Opera Competition, where she performed in the finals concert with orchestra under Maestro Carlo Palleschi.
Ms. Dirlikov's additional recent stage credits include the title role in Carmen with the Summer Opera Lyric Theater in Toronto, Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia with Annapolis Opera, Maddalena in Donizetti's Linda di Chamounix at the Caramoor Festival, Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro at the Banff Center, Dorabella in Cosi Fan Tutte with Pellegrini Opera, Flora in La Traviata with Opera Roanoke, and Julie Riel in the Canadian Opera Louis Riel at the Montreal Place des Arts. With Opera McGill she sang Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier, Penelope in Il Ritorno d'Ulisse in Patria, Mère Marie in Dialogue des Carmelites, and Ms. Todd in The Old Maid and the Thief.
Ms. Dirlikov received her Bachelors in Music with high honors from the University of Michigan, where she studied with acclaimed American soprano Shirley Verrett. She also received a grant to study at the Conservatoire National de Paris. In 2003 Ms. Dirlikov was selected as an international semi-finalist for the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative, led by Jessye Norman. Ms. Dirlikov completed her Masters degree in Opera Performance at McGill University in Montreal. She is currently a resident artist at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, where she studies with Bill Schuman. |
